Trip description
Note: this is an indicative travel
description. The precise order of the mentioned route, safaris and
activities can be adjusted. Of course, all travel components described
below are offered.
On the morning of departure you will be picked up at your hotel in
Nairobi. The starting point of the safari is the office. Here you
will meet the guide and the other travelers. You leave for the Masaai Mara
at around 9 a.m. This is a ride with a beautiful view of the
"Escarpment Wall". You will have lunch in Narok and around 15.00
you will arrive at Mara Springs Tented Camp, or a similar camp based on
availability. After freshening up you go on a short safari that lasts
until the sun sets. Dinner is served in the camp.
Your day starts with a hearty breakfast. For the 8 o'clock clock you head
out for a safari of more than 9 hours! In the Masaai Mara National Park
the largest numbers of animals live together and today you make a game drive
towards the Mara River, the place where all those animals come
together. If you arrive during the migration time, you will see the
wildebeest crossing the river. And outside of migration you will see
countless crocodiles and hippos by the river. You picnic in the park and
after lunch your safari continues. The safari lasts until about 5 hours
today. Dinner is also served at the camp this evening.
Day 3: Masaai Mara to Lake Nakuru
After breakfast you can do an optional activity, such as a "nature
walk" with Masaai warriors. Or visit the nearby Masaai
village. The costs of these optional activities are 2000 Kenyan Shilling
per activity per person; around 20 euros per activity per
person. Then you travel to Lake Nakuru. Along the way you enjoy a
beautiful view of Mount Longonot. If you wish, we can organize an optional
activity on the way for you at Lake Naivasha; a boat trip of about 45
minutes where you can see hippos and pelicans. In the evening you will
arrive in Nakuru Town. You spend the night at the Citymax hotel or a
comparable hotel based on availability.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha
Your breakfast at the hotel. Then you travel to Lake Nakuru, famous for
the endangered rhinos that live here and of course the many flamingos. The
flamingos do not always show up close, but you must have a lot of bad luck if
you do not come across (many) rhinos today. Lake Nakuru is not a big
National Park and after about 4 hours you have seen most of the
park. After lunch you will drive to Lake Naivasha where you will stay at
the Taphe Guest Resort, or a similar resort.
Day 5: Naivasha to Hell's Gate and Nairobi
After breakfast at the hotel we will drive you to Hell's Gate. Of course
you go on safari here! This is the only place in Kenya where there are no
large predators, so you can go on a walking safari here. If you prefer to
stay in the jeep, that's fine too. You can even decide to rent bikes at
the Main Gate (Elsa Gate), so you can go on a safari while cycling! This
ride is approximately 11 kilometers long, one way. You then cycle to the
gorge of Hell's Gate. Once there (by car, walking or by bike) you can walk
through the gorge (the Gorge) of Hell's Gate as an optional
activity. There you will be assigned a guide who will gladly explain
everything about the rock formations that you see. Note that this is a
fairly tough walk (climb). Take good shoes with you, such as walking shoes
or sneakers with a good profile. The cost of this optional activity is
1500 Kenyan shillings; around 15 euros per person. Later in the
morning you leave Naivasha behind and head back to Nairobi.
