Traveling to Uganda (7 days tour)
Visiting gorillas in Uganda
Deep in the jungles of Uganda lives
the mighty and imposing ape, the gorilla. With this cheap gorilla Safari you
travel to the interior of Africa to come face to face with this beautiful
gentle giant. Tropical rain forests are home to the mountain
gorilla. Encountering this beast there is one of the most memorable
wildlife experiences that you can experience as a traveler, anywhere in the
world. An 'encounter', encounter, with male silver-back gorilla you will
stay with you for the rest of your life.
Gorilla safari
The governments in Uganda and Rwanda are fairly strict when it
comes to issuing gorilla permits. That's a good thing, because there are
only a few gorillas left worldwide. It is therefore important that the
gorillas are not exposed to too much pressure. Because gorilla permits are
not always available in the same country and the gorilla is constantly moving,
you may be looking for the gorilla in Uganda, Rwanda or the Democratic Republic
of Congo. Two to three days are allocated in the travel program for the
gorilla trek, but keep in mind that the actual search is a day. The
remaining days serve as a margin, sometimes the mountain gorilla is difficult
to find.
Safari in Murchison Falls
During this 7-day trip in search of the silverback gorilla you
not only go on a gorilla trek, but you also get to see Uganda well. You
can go on a safari in Murchison Falls, go deep into the Booundogo Forest to
spot chimpanzees in their natural habitat and experience the atmosphere, smells,
bustle and impressions of an African city; Kampala.

Trip description
Day 1: Masindi - Murchison Falls National Park
We prepare to go to Murchison Fralls, a National Park with a beautiful
waterfall and lots of wildlife. In this game park you will find many wild
animals and it is one of the most beautiful game parks in Uganda. In the
afternoon you will receive a briefing from the guide.
Day 2: Masindi - Budongo Central Forest Reserve
Budongo Forest is the largest "mahogany" forest in East
Africa. A lot of chimpanzees live in the wild here. The estimate is
that there are around 600 - 700. This morning you will meet your
chimpanzee guide who will take you into the forest in search of
chimpanzees. You also make a cruise on the Nile in the Murchison Falls
National Park.
Please note: only a maximum of 12 people can search for the
chimpanzees at a time. The one group goes on a cruise first and then on a
chimp trek and afterwards they switch.
Activities package: chimpanzee trekking at Murchison Falls for
half a day
Day 3: Kampala
Today we travel back to the capital of Uganda, Kampala. Here you have the
opportunity to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and visit a program set up to
protect the rhinos.
Activity package: Ziwa rhino walk
Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyony is a small but attractive lake to see different birds in their
natural environment. We use this relaxed place to rest a while before we
enter the domain of the gorillas.
Day 5 and 6: Gorillas! (Lake Bunyonyi)
- Note: you must purchase a gorilla permit for these days
The mountain gorilla is unfortunately seriously threatened with
extinction. Official figures are missing, but their number is estimated at
only 650 mountain gorillas. Visiting the gorillas is a great way to secure
their future: the money you spend on permits is used for their protection. With
the money that the permits raise, the local community is tried to understand
that protection of the gorillas yields more than poaching the mountain gorilla.
It is very difficult to get permits. That is why we are
required to be flexible on this part of the tour. We may visit the
mountain gorilla in Uganda, but the mountain gorila also resides in Rwanda or
in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Logically, the gorilla doesn't care
much about national borders. So it depends on the gorilla and the local
authorities (who must issue the permits) where we view the gorillas. We
ask you to take this into account and to adjust accordingly.
We take two days off for the gorilla trek. Keep in mind
that the gorilla trek is only a day. We keep the other two days in hand,
in case the gorillas do not show themselves or it is difficult to get permits.
You are also going, this is part of the activity package, out on
a motorboat to the Nyombi Village pygmy strain.
Optional activities are a boat tour to the Batwa community
(bushmen), or a hike / hike through the mountainous surroundings (community
walk).
Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi -
Kampala
This day you spend traveling back to Kampala, Uganda and after that your
journey unfortunately ends.
